Your Training Description

Creating inclusive spaces is essential for ALL of us to be able to show up as our authentic selves. This training offers strategies and insights for co-creating respectful and affirming LGBTQIA+ spaces for all young people in our communities. Topics include adapting physical spaces, age-appropriate tools to talk about gender and sexuality, and more. Affirming identities and lived experiences creates positive outcomes, reduces harm, and allows youth to gain the confidence to navigate systems.

  • Gain tools that can be used to create affirming spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth

Your Trainers

Jonathan Echevarria Tolentino (he/him/él) is an experienced Sexologist, Sexual Health Educator and Coach. He completed his master’s degree at the Sexological, Educational and Psychological Institute in his home country of Puerto Rico. 

Driven by his passion in holistic and inclusive Human Sexuality, he takes pride in creating programs that promote and foster the health and well-being of communities that are in need. He believes that education is a resourceful tool that has the power of making the world a better place. 

As the Education & Training Director for QUEERSPACE collective, Jonathan is committed to breaking barriers to create safe spaces so that everyone can be visible, validated, supported, and respected.

Abby Neisen (they/them/she) graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Women and Gender Studies with minors in Spanish, and Human Development and Family Sciences from North Dakota State University. 

They are passionate about building encouraging and supportive relationships with youth to help further these passions and make a difference in the development of the LGBTQIA+ community.

As the Program Coordinator for QUEERSPACE collective, Abby is committed to co-creating spaces of conversation for folx who seek to build LGBTQIA+ knowledge and provide welcoming programs where youth feel safer to show themselves as who they are, where they come from, and where they want to go.

Each of YIPA’s trainings are designed around a broad framework of eight youth work competencies. The competency focus of this training is: INTERCULTURAL ENGAGEMENT.

You'll raise your awareness to appreciate diversity, foster equity, ensure inclusion, recognize and address bias and prejudice, and cultivate respect for all cultures.
