Your Training Description

Young people will encounter many life transition points as they develop. Two of the most common ones they may struggle with are career exploration and workforce navigation. Facing those transitions, a young person can feel excited and scared all at the same time. They need confidence to explore options and opt into the workforce in ways that work for them.

Because of the trust you’ve built with young people, you’re in an ideal position to encourage and support their exploration. You’ll have connections to resources and tools that you can share. You can learn to be a judgment-free sounding board for their ideas and create the space to face their fears and work through hurdles.

This training is relevant to anyone working with middle school and high school aged youth. Even if a young person’s next step is staying in school, you can spark their critical thinking skills and motivate them to start exploring options now. You’ll gain actionable strategies that are backed by research, along with resources you can use. You’ll learn about the common challenges young people may experience along the way, including the inequities underserved communities face, and how you can help them be more successful as they create a life that brings them joy and fulfillment.

Your Learning Objectives

  • Identify resources for exploring career pathways for all ages
  • Learn conversation starters and probing questions to help youth develop critical thinking in the workforce
  • Be able to summarize action planning strategies to support transitional phases for young people
  • Explore common pitfalls young people experience in the workforce or pathway exploration
