Your Training Description
As a youth worker you have the innate skills to be an effective advocate for our young people. Advocacy is centered on building relationships which you are already doing! In this Interview-Style training, you’ll learn why grassroots movements are so important in youth work and strategies to be an effective youth work advocate. This training focuses on the seven pillars of a grassroots movement. Don’t wait for someone else to change what we all know needs fixing…light the fire inside yourself and get involved!

Your Trainer
For the last half century, John Kaul has had a front-row seat to Minnesota history, from serving as the chief of staff to the senate majority leader to lobbying for the Minnesota state colleges and universities. He established a government relations firm which represented a wide range of clients big and small. John is well known in Minnesota state government circles because of his associations with governors, legislators, staff, agency heads, business leaders, and members of the press corps.
He retired from government relations work in 2019 to devote himself to filmmaking and photography. His large portfolio of candid photographs of the Minnesota legislature in action are regularly posted on Facebook and have been exhibited frequently in galleries and coffee houses. In 2015, he formed Afton Films to capture living history and tell important stories through the medium of film.
