Your Training Description

It is harder for young people to make healthy decisions when they don’t have access to wellness information and evidence-based resources. Promoting health literacy encourages a lifetime of informed choices and optimal well-being for the youth that you serve. Join us to explore the critical role of health literacy in empowering youth to make informed decisions about their well-being. By focusing on essential skills, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence needed for a proactive approach to help young people navigate their personal health.

Your Learning Objectives

  • Strengthen your understanding of health literacy
  • Review the impacts of health literacy on youth work
  • Build skills to bring health literacy into your work with young people

Jill Collins (she/her) is a Health Educator and a Patient Advocate who spends a lot of her time educating on and supporting the full scope of sexual and reproductive health topics. She has a BS in Psychology from Drake University, and an MPH from the University of Minnesota with a major in Community Health Promotion and a minor in Sexual Health. Jill is a partner, daughter, friend, advocate, dog mom, plant mom, and a lover of cooking and baking.

Jill firmly believes good health and access to healthcare is a human right. Unfortunately, our healthcare system is difficult to navigate. To progress forward with health equity in mind, we must value and uphold diversity which requires us to be adaptable in our language with our healthcare and public health messaging. We are all deserving and worthy of living happy, healthy lives - we must promote health literacy as the foundation of building the lives we want to live.
