Your Training Description

Working with young people puts you in a position to see them at their best, their worst, and everything in between. Sometimes their behaviors make it difficult for you to support them and it can be taxing on your personal well-being as well as theirs. Instead of remaining calm in the face of challenging behaviors, sometimes you feel just as out of control, frustrated, and at a loss for how to manage yourself and interact with others as the young person whose behavior has escalated in front of you.

Adding Meditative Movements™ to your youth work will help you stay calm and self-regulated. You’ll learn how to increase physical activity and improve well-being for yourself and the young people you serve. The 2017 University of Minnesota research study found this technique reduces anxiety, depression, and fatigue while improving emotional and functional well-being for persons with chronic health conditions.

Meditative Movements™ is an innovative technique that integrates easy to follow movements to improve self-care and self-regulation. The movements are adaptable to anyone’s physical ability and incorporate breathing strategies and spoken core value affirmations. You will explore the mind, body, and being connection and how it affects behavior. You will practice Meditative Movements™ that release harmful energies while increasing nurturing ones. As you become more aware, you will be better equipped to handle difficult situations. When emotions are heightened, you can redirect and deescalate behavior by performing Meditative Movements™ in the moment.

Your Learning Objectives

  • Explore the mind, body, and being connection to improve self-awareness
  • Experience Meditative Movements™ you can use in your program or on your own
  • Learn to manage your own energy in a way that can help reduce stressful interactions and provide better outcomes for youth

Ellie Peterson’s teen pregnancy catapulted her into adulthood. At 23 years old, she was divorced and raising three children on her own while making $80 a week as “Ellie from the deli.” As a smoker, her body was unhealthy; her mind was filled with chaotic thoughts and her spiritual being was weighed down with fear, self-pity, anger, and worthlessness. Because of her own self-care needs, she created the Meditative Movements™ technique.

In 1992 she graduated from the College of St. Catherine. She is an author, health and wellness columnist and professional speaker. Ellie spends her winters in Florida and loves being with her six grandchildren and family during our Minnesota summers.
