Mental Health Basics
- Trauma and its impacts shape relationships between youth workers and youth whether or not there is awareness of it. Building deeper understanding of trauma and the ways it can shape youth work practice is vital.
- This course focuses on the relationship between you and the young people you support, outlining some shared language and frameworks related to trauma and its impacts.
- You’ll apply these frameworks to reflect on the specific ways that trauma impacts both you and young people. You’ll be prepared to apply trauma-informed approaches to your own contexts to create more possibilities for intentional and meaningful youth work.

Your Trainer
Lara Griffin (she/her) is the founder of Grounded Practice Consulting. Lara’s consulting work supports mission-driven professionals to feel grounded in their values and connected to supportive structures in order to practice meaningful work in the world. She has held roles in direct service in school-based programs, program management, operations management across programs, program evaluation, training, and systems change work. She holds Master’s Degrees in Social Work (MSW) and Public Policy (MPP) from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in History and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies from Oberlin College. Lara is a licensed social worker (LGSW) in the state of Minnesota and a certified Social Work Supervisor. Have a question?
