Mental Health Basics
- Youth depression is on the rise in the United States. As a youth worker, it’s important to be aware of the red flags and learn when and how to intervene.
- Having a basic understanding of what to look for and how to help gives you skills to support youth struggling with depression.
- There are different types of depressive disorders, but you don’t need to know them all or be a psychologist to help youth with depression. Learn how depression develops in youth and how to identify warning signs.

- Learn about the development of depression in youth
- Identify the signs and symptoms of depression in youth
- Acquire 2-3 coping strategies that you can teach a youth to help them manage their depression
