Your Training Description
Roughly 30 million people suffer from eating disorders in the United States. These eating disorders do not discriminate based on gender, age, race, or culture and youth-serving organizations certainly encounter youth struggling in this area. Youth workers often miss the early warning signs when not properly trained.
It’s critical you understand what anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder look like and how they differ. As a youth worker, you are often the first line of defense when it comes to identifying signs of an eating disorder. This training is your opportunity to improve your knowledge, skills, and confidence about eating disorders.
By attending this training, you will gain a basic understanding of eating disorders. It is considered a primer for a more in-depth, in-person training previously held at Melrose Center, an eating disorder treatment center. Whether you just want the basics or prefer a deeper dive into eating disorders, sign up today.
Your Learning Objectives
- Identify the signs and symptoms of eating disorders in youth
- Learn steps to approach and support a youth who may be struggling with an eating disorder
- Understand how your own behaviors and attitudes about food, exercise, and body image can affect others
Your Trainer

She is a passionate leader and teacher concerning the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, and how societal messages impact our beliefs and attitudes about food, weight, and body image. You may have seen her passion for education and expertise on display in the local media or as a speaker at a state or national conference for healthcare providers. Prior to joining Melrose Center, Dr. Gallivan served 5 years in the United States Navy as an active duty psychologist.
