Too often, proper training on how to be a great youth worker is overlooked. This can lead to ethical dilemmas that are not addressed in the best interest of young people. The result is a ripple effect of negative impacts on young people, youth-serving organizations, and the field of youth work.

The difference between a good youth worker and a great youth worker lies within the youth worker themselves. Understanding why you do what you do is the key aspect of great youth work. There is no playbook to follow for ethical dilemmas, but you can learn how to examine your actions and thoughts to uncover the motives behind them.
